The Empire's shadow looms large. Our mission is clear: their key bases must fall to shatter their iron grip and liberate our people. Yet, insidious spies have infiltrated our very ranks, poised to sabotage our every move. We must be vigilant, we must deduce their identities, and we must earn the trust of our comrades. In five crucial nights, we will reshape destiny, or we will perish trying. We are the Resistance!
The Resistance is a thrilling party game of social deduction, designed for 5 to 10 players, delivering intense intrigue in approximately 30 minutes, with the crucial element of no player elimination. Inspired by the classic Mafia/Werewolf, The Resistance forges its own path with unique core mechanics that empower informed decisions, amplify player interaction, and ensure everyone remains in the fight until the very end.
Players are secretly divided: loyal Resistance Operatives fighting for freedom, or cunning Imperial Spies working to crush the rebellion from within. Over three to five tense rounds, the Resistance must rely on each other to execute vital missions against the Empire. Simultaneously, both sides engage in a high-stakes battle of wits, attempting to unmask their adversaries and secure the precious commodity of trust.
Each round ignites with fervent discussion, where alliances are forged and suspicions sown. When the moment arrives, the appointed Leader entrusts critical Plans to a select number of players (potentially including themselves). The entire group then votes on whether to approve this crucial assignment. Once a team is chosen, the selected operatives secretly decide their allegiance: will they Support the mission, ensuring its success and bolstering the Resistance, or will they choose to Sabotage, furthering the Empire's nefarious agenda?
Based on the clandestine choices, the mission either triumphs (a victory for the Resistance, inching them closer to liberation) or fails (a win for the Empire, tightening their oppressive grip). The first team to successfully complete three missions claims victory in this epic struggle for freedom.
Rule Clarification (for early editions):
For those who acquired the first printing (around 2010), please note the following corrected expansion rules: "Games of 5-6 players use 7 plot cards, games with 7+ players use all 15 Plot Cards." and "...each Round, the leader draws Plot cards (1 for 5-6 players, 2 for 7-8 players, and 3 for 9-10 players)." These adjustments have been implemented in subsequent printings.
