WereWords — The Word Game With a Werewolf Problem

Someone at this table knows the secret word. Someone else is lying about knowing it. Your job is to figure out which is which before the clock runs out.

Twenty questions has been a perfectly good game for a very long time. Then Ted Alspach looked at it, added hidden roles, a werewolf, a mayor, a seer, and a ticking timer — and made it completely impossible to play without raising your voice at least once.

WereWords is the game that happens when social deduction and word guessing decide to share a table. One player is secretly the Werewolf, trying to make sure the group never figures out the magic word. One is the Seer, who already knows the answer and has to help without being obvious about it. Everyone else is asking yes and no questions, watching faces, reading hesitations, and trying to solve two problems simultaneously — what is the word, and who is working against them.

The app integration handles the magic word and role assignment, which means setup takes thirty seconds and the chaos starts immediately. Rounds are fast, loud, and almost always end with someone pointing at someone else with the specific energy of a person who has been betrayed by a friend and is not entirely upset about it.

Why This Is a Must-Have

  • Social Deduction Meets Word Guessing — a genuinely original hybrid that makes both mechanics better by combining them into a single tense, hilarious round
  • Hidden Roles for Every Player — Werewolf, Seer, Mayor, Villagers — each role changes how you play and how you watch everyone else play
  • App-Assisted Gameplay — free companion app handles word generation and role assignment, making setup instant and replay variety essentially infinite
  • Fast Round Structure — each round resolves in minutes, making this ideal for groups that want multiple games in a single evening
  • Designed by Ted Alspach — the creator of Bezier Games and the mind behind One Night Ultimate Werewolf brings the same social tension to a completely accessible format
  • Scales Beautifully Across Group Sizes — works with a small group and gets progressively more chaotic and entertaining as the table fills up
